Yummy chow chow kootu is easy to prepare. My hubby who hates the word brinjal had this dish without knowing it is made from bangalore kathirikkai 🙂 I told him it is chow chow recipe and didnt mention the other name.
- 1 cup chopped chow chow
- 1/2 cup siru paruppu(split green gram or mung dal)
- 1 onion
- 2-3 dry red chillies
- 1 tomato
- 2-3 garlic flakes
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 4 curry leaves
- 1 tbsp chopped coriander
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- salt to taste
- Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Temper mustard seeds, curry leaves and add dry red chillies. Saute a while and add chopped onions. Add garlic flakes and chopped tomato.
- Fry for 2 mins and add chopped chow chow. Mix well and add turmeric powder. Wash siru paruppu and drain the water. Add it to the kootu and mix salt.
- Add 1/4 cup water and more if needed. Close the lid and remove from heat once 3-4 whistle comes. Serve hot with rasam rice.
