For past one week, i was busy with my parents house warming function and didnt get time to post any recipes or visit my friends blogs. I shall be busy for coming week too. Once i settle everything, i shall try to be on track soon. This is one of my best experiment which made my hubby to kiss my hands. I was so touched with this compliment. I have fallen in love with curry leaves since i tried Karuvepillai Eral Thokku. I have started experimenting more with this leaf in most of my recipes. So try this and let me know your feedback too 🙂

Ingredients :

To Marinate :

  • head and tail parts of fish ( i used vanjaram(king fish))
  • 2 tsp chili powder (sambar powder)
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp thick curd
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder (seeds roasted and powdered)

For Curry :

  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander

For Paste :

  • 4-5 cashewnuts
  • 20-30 curry leaves
  • 1 tsp peppercorns

Method :

  • Grind cashew, curry leaves and peppercorns in a mixer adding little water. Keep it aside. Marinate fish pieces with the above mentioned ingredients and keep aside for 30 mins.
  • Heat oil in a tava or frying pan. Fry the fish till it turns golden brown. Remove from the heat and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai and temper mustard seeds. Add curry leaves and saute a while. Add chopped onions and fry for 2 mins.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and mash the pulp. Add grounded paste, red chili powder and left over marinade. Cook for 2 mins. Add garam masala and salt to taste. Add 1/2 cup water and cook it covered till the oil separates.
  • Add fried fish and cook for another 5 mins and garnish with chopped coriander. Remove from the heat and serve hot with rice.
