Hare Chane ka Masala (Green Chick Peas Masala)

Ingredients :

  • 1/2 cup Hare Chane (Green Chick Peas) – soaked over night in water
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • asofoetida – a pinch
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander

To Grind :

  • 1/4 cup chopped coconut
  • 6 dry red chilies
  • 2 green chilies
  • lemon sized tamarind ball
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1/2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

Method :

  • Pressure cook channa with 1 cup water for 3-4 whistles. Remove from the heat and drain the water completely. Grind the above mentioned ingredients adding little water.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai and temper mustard seeds. Add chopped onions and fry for 2 mins. Add cooked channa and saute a while.
  • Add masala paste, turmeric powder, asofoetida and salt to taste. Add 3/4 cup water and cook it covered till the raw smell goes and masala becomes thick.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander and remove from the heat. Serve hot with rice or roti.
