Ingredients :

To Cook Mutton :

  • 250 gms mutton
  • 1/4 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp curd
  • salt to taste

To Fry & Grind (Masala Paste) :

  • 1 small onion
  • 20-30 curry leaves
  • 1 green chili
  • 2 dry red chilies
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

For Gravy :

  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 1 medium sized tomato
  • 1/4 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp pepper powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander

 

Karuvepillai Aatu Kari Thokku / Mutton & Curry Leaves Gravy

Method :

  • Pressure cook mutton with turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, curd and little salt. Add 1/2 cup water and close the lid. Cook for 30 whistles if the meat is tender, otherwise cook for 15 mins. Remove from the heat and allow to cool.
  • Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan or kadhai and fry the above mentioned ingredients to  prepare masala paste. Allow to cool and grind in a mixer adding little water to a smooth paste.
  • Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan or kadhai. Tamper mustard seeds. Add chopped onions and curry leaves. Fry for few mins.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and chopped tomatoes. Mash the pulp. Add grounded masala paste, red chili powder, coriander and cooked mutton along with stew.
  • Add salt to taste and add water if needed. Cook it closed for 10 mins. Sprinkle pepper powder and cook for another 5-10 mins till the raw smell of masala goes off.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander and remove from the heat. Serve hot with rice or roti.
