how to prepare pickled onions at home

Serves: 300 gm pickled onion
  • 300 gm shallots / sambar vengayam
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp red chili powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup vinegar
  • 1 and ½ cup water
  1. Peel off the skin of shallots and wash them. Pat dry using clean towel. Take a jar or mixing bowl. Add sugar, salt, chili powder and mix well.
  2. Now, add vinegar and water. Mix well everything and let sugar and salt dissolve. Now, add shallots and mix well. Keep the jar closed and let it be at room temperature for 3-4 hours, then you can keep it inside refrigerator and serve when needed.
