a very spicy and delicious prawn celery masala flavored with pepper, cumin and coriander powder.

  • 200 gms Prawn / Jhinga / Eral – cleaned & washed
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1 medium sized onion – finely chopped
  • ½ tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 green chilies – chopped
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp coriander powder
  • 1 medium sized tomato – finely chopped
  • ½ tsp cumin powder / jeera
  • 2-3 tsp pepper powder (according to your need)
  • ½ tsp garam masala – optional
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 3-4 tbsp sesame oil / gingelly oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  1. Marinate prawns with turmeric powder and keep aside for 20 mins. Heat oil in a non stick pan or wok / kadhai. Tamper mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add chopped onions and green chilies. Cook for a min.
  2. Add chopped tomatoes and ginger-garlic paste. Mash the pulp and add prawns. Saute a while. Add cumin powder, coriander powder and 2 tsp pepper powder. Stir well.
  3. Add ¾ cup chopped celery and stir well. Now, Add salt to taste and cook it covered on low flame for 10 mins. Add garam masala, pepper powder and lemon juice. Mix well and cook again for 5-8 mins. Sprinkle remaining chopped celery and serve hot with rice or roti.
