Spicy Mango Chili Jam Recipe, a healthy and easy to prepare Jam recipe made with mangoes, jaggery and red chilies. Lemon acts as preservative here. If stored properly in a clean jar, it may last up to 3-4 months. You can add more fruits like apple, fig, plums, amla, strawberry etc.. I have shared the recipe for Jam Bread Rolls where you can use this spicy jam for the filling. I rarely buy jam from stores since they are loaded with sugar. We do not like sugar loaded jam and always prefer homemade jam without any chemical preservatives added. I prepare min. 250 gms jam which last upto 4-5 months as we are 2 member family. Since this is the season of Mangoes, I tried spicy mango jam which worked out very well. Use this jam as a spread for bread, chapati or even dosa.
If you do not like spicy jam then reduce the quantity of red chilies added. Jaggery can be replaced with sugar. Some of the jam recipes (without pectin) shared in my blog, Mango Litchi Kiwi Jam, Amla Jam / Gooseberry Jam, Strawberry Jam & Apple Plum Jam. If you try any of my recipes, do share your feedback with us.
- 400 gms Ripe Mango Pulp
- 200 gms powdered jaggery
- 5 dry red chilies
- 1 lemon
- Grind red chilies and mango pulp in a mixer grinder to smooth paste. Heat mango chili paste and powdered jaggery in a pan on low-medium flame.
- Cook it till you get jam like consistency. It took 1 hour for me to get the correct consistency. To test it, take a spoonful of jam and spread it on a plate. It should spread like jam. Switch off the flame and add lemon juice. Mix well everything. Once it comes to room temperature, store it in an airtight jar or container.
